POLICE from Alvechurch and Wythall have been assisting Hagley and Rubery’s Safer Neighbourhood team during knife sweeps at St. Chads park, Rubery today (May 15) as part of Anti Knife Crime Week.
The West Mercia Police officers have also set up a knife surrender facility alongside a mobile ‘drop-in’ station where residents can discuss issues relating to knife crime.
The knife surrender bins are set up to encourage people to hand in unwanted knives to prevent them getting into the wrong hands and being used in crime.
The week long knife crime campaign, running from May 15 to May 21, will see police raise awareness in communities, particularly with children and young people, about the dangers of carrying a knife.
Anti Knife Crime Week is supported by Operation Sceptre, a national police campaign aimed at ensuring residents’ safety from knife crime in communities around the country.
