A MEDICAL student to be at the University of Worcester has given advice for others who find themselves needing to go through Clearing on A-level results day tomorrow (August, 15).

Sophie Bennett, from Bromsgrove has just graduated from Biomedical Science and is about to start her journey at Worcester’s Medical School.

When she opened her results three years ago she did not get into her first choice and applied for Worcester through clearing.

Sophie said: “I want people to know that just because you go through Clearing, just because you didn’t get into your first-choice university, doesn’t mean things aren’t going to go the way you want them to.”

Sophie’s mum was studying paramedic science at the University of Worcester and suggested Sophie apply, and they went to visit the clearing open day.

Sophie added: “I remember it being a lot easier than I thought, but it was quite scary – the thought of having to speak to someone and say I’ve failed and I’ve not made it.

“But even speaking to the lecturer definitely made a massive impact. He asked what I was interested in and said he thought Biomedical Science was the course for me.

“He made me feel like I could do it and if I couldn’t do it the lecturers would be there to support me.”

Next month she will be studying medicine at the universities graduate entry medical school, she is aiming to be an emergency doctor.

More than a thousand people applied for the fifty places which Worcester was finally allocated after several years of campaigning.

Sophie said not getting the results you were hoping for feels like the end of the world, but it’s not and there are better things to come.
