Action packed first few months for new Bromsgrove Scout group

A BROMSGROVE Scout group have been very busy since their beginning, volunteering in the community and taking on arduous adventurous challenges.

The town’s seventh Explorer Scout Unit, made up of boys and girls aged 14-17, have had an action packed first four months. The group have already taken part in a 20km hike, volunteered at their local rugby festival, taken part in a county Explorer camp, and have even had a presentation from an Antarctic Explorer.

They have also planned and ran an evening for the younger Beavers section (ages six to eight) which leaders say has helped the team develop ‘fantastic’ organisation, confidence and leadership skills.

One of the young Explorers said: “Explorers is a good place to have fun and make new friends. I like that we get to plan our own programme so we can choose what we do each week.”

The seventh Explorer Scout Unit are on the lookout for more young adventurers to join the ranks ahead of more youth led projects in the works.

A trip to the police headquarters in Hindlip, Worcester is on the schedule as well as litter picking and an inclusion night and a camping trip to hike up Snowdon in North Wales.

Explorer leader Simon said: “I’ve enjoyed learning what teenagers enjoy doing (and what they don’t), helping them plan their programme and to achieve their goals.

“I’m looking forward to the growth of the group – Once we have more Explorers we can do more activities.

“And the more we do, the more comfortable we will become more comfortable as a leadership team drawing on each other’s strengths.”
