A TALK on ‘An Accident Waiting to Happen – The Battle of Worcester 1651’ will be given at 7.45pm on March 10 at Bromsgrove Methodist Centre.

The event is the latest to be organised by the town’s branch of the Midlands Ancestors, will be at 7.45pm.

The Battle of Worcester on September 3, 1651, is one of the most important events in the city’s history and was of national importance.

It ended in the series of civil wars that began in 1642.

It became part of the myth of the ‘faithful city’ but this talk explains how the battle came to be at Worcester by accident and how the events of September 3 took both sides by surprise.

It became known as ‘Cromwell’s crowning mercy’ as it was the pinnacle of his military career.
