A MISCONDUCT hearing hearing for former-PC Lewis Catley was held on Monday (October 3).
The hearing, chaired by Chief Constable Pippa Mills, heard that on 8 June, PC Catley, who was based in Bromsgrove, was convicted of two counts of assault at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court and subsequently sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.
The incidents took place while PC Catley was off duty in Telford in September 2021 and Stourbridge in October 2021.
The hearing found that he breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct.
Chief Constable Mills found that PC Catley’s behaviour amounted to gross misconduct and he would have been dismissed without notice had he not already resigned.
Chief Constable Mills said: “PC Catley’s disgraceful behaviour not only broke criminal law but also breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour that all officers abide by.
“Domestic abuse is unacceptable, but even more so when perpetrated by a police officer.
“I will not tolerate it in West Mercia Police and will continue to ensure we are ruthless in dealing with anyone in the organisation who undermines the trust and confidence of our communities and lets down their honest and dedicated colleagues.”
