A-level results improve for second successive year in Worcestershire

A-LEVEL results have improved for the second successive year in Worcestershire, according to the county council.

Research provided by 23 schools shows the average grade across three A-level subjects were higher than last year.

The county’s sixth form students averaged 31.9 points (high grade C) across their best three A-levels compared to 31.5 in 2018.

Also 11 per cent of students gained top grades (2As and a B or higher) in at least two facilitating subjects compared to just over 10 per cent last year.

Facilitating subjects are those which are commonly needed for entry to leading universities, for example biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or English.

Cabinet member with responsibility for education and skills, Councillor Marcus Hart, said: “These results are a real reflection of the hard work of staff and students from across Worcestershire.

“It’s great to see an improvement on last year’s results and our progression in this area over the last two years gives us a real platform to build on going forward.”

Nationally the proportion of students achieving the top grades at A-level fell to its lowest level for more than a decade.

For many, now is the time for making big decisions about what to do next in their lives.

The county council is encouraging students to consider apprenticeships as a next step for progressing their career.
