A CHARITY golf event has generated almost £5,000 for Belbroughton C of E Primary School PTA, enabling the fund-raising team to smash its overall £10,000 target.
The event – at Kidderminster Golf Club – was organised by Peter and Erica Simpson, whose children attend the school and members of the PTA.
The cash will help revamp the school’s playground over the summer holidays.
Erica said: “The event was a great success – the sun came out, we’ve had some fantastic feedback and everyone seemed to have a great time.”
The contest took the form of a Stableford Competition with 18 teams on a shotgun start, teeing off at 12pm, along with a nearest the pin, nearest the line and a 10-yard bucket challenge.
The overall competition was won by Higgs LLP.
After the golf, the players enjoyed a two-course dinner, prize presentation and raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
On the playground improvements, Erica added: “Lockdown has undoubtedly had a negative effect on the children’s mental health and wellbeing.
“It is thought that time spent outdoors in a natural outdoor environment relieves stress and anxiety and can improve self-esteem and mental health.
“We have therefore prioritised creating a small garden area to give the children somewhere to spend some quiet time to reflect and take time out.”
The designated area will be landscaped and feature a small patio garden with benches, planters and reading books to give children an alternative to the hustle and bustle of the general playground.
