£5,400 boost for sensory garden at Bromsgrove's Chadsgrove College

MORE than £5,400 has been pledged by Worcestershire Country Council towards a sensory garden for Chadsgrove Educational Trust Specialist College students.

The cash, which has come through the Crowdfund Worcestershire scheme, will support students so they can undertake more outdoor learning while engaging their senses.

The project will see wheelchair-friendly raised planters installed, allowing students to grow herbs and vegetables and develop independent living skills which will help them prepare for life after college.

The specialist college works with students aged between 19 and 25 whose special educational needs arise from their physical disability or complex health needs.

College headteacher Deb Rattley said: “The project will directly support local community projects within Catshill as we will proudly donate the fresh produce we grow in our vegetable garden to ‘The Cozy Cafe’ and Catshill Foodbank – helping our community where needed.

“We are looking forward to establishing inter-generational bonds with members of our community too, by inviting them in to join us for events in our new garden.

“We plan to hold holistic events where members of our local community can join us to find out how gardening, herbs and the outdoors can help to improve their wellbeing.”

Crowdfund Worcestershire allows residents and groups to pitch their community-improving ideas to the county council and secure funding.

People can then get behind the projects with pledges starting at £2.
