£5,000 raised at this year's Bromsgrove Carnival handed over to three good causes

ALMOST £5,000 raised at this year’s Bromsgrove Carnival was presented to three good causes.

Among the organisations getting more than £1,500 each were the North Worcestershire Basement Project, Sense and the Bromsgrove and District Scouts.

The Basement Project will be using its share to help fund support workers as well as its foodbank.

Sense is a deafblind charity based in Selly Oak which will use its funding to help people with sight and hearing impairments.

And the Scouts, which has a general fund for local events, will be using its carnival cash to get members to the next World Scout Jamboree.

In total, including cash spend on charity and community stalls, good causes benefited to the tune of £10,000 overall, including the Bromsgrove economy with thousands drawn into the town centre on the main Saturday.

The Bromsgrove Carnival returned in July after three years of enforced Covid cancellations and it was bigger and better than ever.

The much-loved lorry floats were back with a ‘Commonwealth’ theme to pay homage to Birmingham 2022, journeying from North Bromsgrove High School to Sanders Park.

Other popular events also returned, including the outdoor cinema – a fitting screening of Cool Runnings in Sanders Park on the Friday night, the Timberhonger 10K, 5K and children’s challenge.

Adam Lote, one of the Bromsgrove Carnival organising committee, thanked everyone who came out and supported this year’s event and good causes in the process.

He urged charities or community groups wanting to be considered for next year’s Carnival good causes to email him at [email protected] or to send a direct message through the Bromsgrove Carnival Facebook page.
