A TOTAL of 35 firefighters battled a large fire on land off Illey Lane, near Frankley Services, at 2.45pm this afternoon.
The blaze ripped through 60 tonnes of straw and the crews from West Midlands Fire Service took two hours to extinguish the blaze.
The first crew arrived within four minutes and Illey Lane was closed off between Bromsgrove Road and Kitwell Lane.
Because of the remote location, a water relay system was set up.
The fire was out by 4.30pm but the rest of the straw was burned under controlled conditions.
