33 bags of litter collected as group continues campaign to Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful

KEEP Bromsgrove Beautiful (KBB) is building up to this year’s Great British Spring Clean by taking part in some small-scale litterpicks.

Two members of the group have tackled the wooded/grassy area at the bottom of the Aldi car park near Supablinds in Aston Fields.

Trucks often park there overnight and several bottles of urine have been found there.

The pair cleared eight bags of litter that day.

Then over the weekend, nine members of the group cleared 25 bags of rubbish in two hours.

KBB founder Sarah O’Conor, who is also a Keep Britain Tidy #LitterHeroes Ambassador, said: “We’ve cleared 33 bags so far and there’s still plenty more to do.

“While we were there, one of the group actually saw a kingfisher at the brook.

“We want to make sure that it, and all the other wildlife, can thrive along the brook, and not be put in danger by all our litter.

“We need to clear it, yes, but we then need to find a way to instigate behaviour change in this country’s litterers to prevent it building up again.”

She appealed to lorry drivers to deposit their bottles in bins, rather than in the undergrowth.

Great British Spring Clean countdown….

The group will also be raising awareness of this year’s Great British Spring Clean which runs from March 17 to April 2.

Sarah added: “We are hoping Bromsgrove will rise to the challenge again and people will set up their own litterpicks in their local areas.”

In 2021, KBB and its multitude of litterpickers smashed its target, giving 385 hours of tidying time over the 17 days.

In total, 504 people volunteered and 170 bags of rubbish were removed from Bromsgrove district.
