Keyboard wizard Alec ready to fire up the Mighty Compton for concert

GUEST organist Alec Walters will be lighting up the 1935 Mighty Compton Cinema Organ on Sunday, July 3 reading to bring a wide array of entertainment and musicianship to an eager audience.

Alec, from Wigan in Lancashire is described as playing in a predominantly Blackpool-style which grew out of his parents taking to the famous Blackpool Tower to see the Mighty Wurlitzer there when he was just six-years-old.

Bitten by the bug, young Alec started teaching himself to play and even today he still doesn’t read music, but plays everything by ear and is completely self taught.

However that hasn’t stopped him playing concerts and for dancing right across the country including The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury where he is resident organist – all this by just the age of 27.

His concert, organised by the Cinema Organ Society, will be at the home of the Mighty Compton at Fentham Hall, Marsh Lane, Hampton–in-Arden B92 0AH on Sunday, July 3.

Doors open at 1.30pm, with curtain up at 2.30pm.

Admission is £10 on the door, including interval refreshments and parking.

No need to book and a warm welcome awaits.

This series of concerts are usually held on the first Sunday afternoon of each month and David Lobban will be at the console on August 7.
