ALL the Guys and Dolls brought this classic musical to life when Jigsaw Players staged its latest production at the Droitwich Spa High School theatre.

The show, which is set in New York and centres around gambler Nathan Detroit who is trying to raise $1,000 to get a venue for his ‘craps’ card game and stay on the good side of his wife-to-be Adelaide.

This was a lively performance and you could tell the cast loved putting it on.

Kevin Ward was a natural as Nicely-Nicely Johnson and received the biggest cheer of the evening for his rendition of Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat.

Steve Carley was an accomplished Nathan Detroit and Jonathan Boxhall-Southall was excellent as Sky Masterson. He was supposed to be a bad guy but you couldn’t help wanting him to succeed, such was the portrayal.

But, overall the Dolls pipped the Guys with the performances. Jenny Rose was superb as Sarah Brown and Catherine Tabberner stole the show as long-suffering fiancee Miss Adelaide. Both the lead dolls performed some excellent solos, including A Bushel and a Peck and I’ll Know.

There were also some fantastic elaborate costumes, well-timed dance routines and a pitch-perfect band providing the score.

A mention also has to go to Anne Richter who was a very convincing drink and had the audience in hysterics with her shenanigans.

Other highlights included the touching hook into the interval where Sky realises he is in love and tries to convince Sarah he is a changed man.

The version of ‘Take Back Your Mink’ was also a great way to kick off the second half and Let Luck Be a Lady was also well-received by the crowd.

The final performance takes place tomorrow (Sunday) at 4pm so whether you are a guy or a doll, this show is well worth a watch.
