A NEW president has been announced for The Bromsgrove International Musician’s Competition.
Internationally known oboist and musical educator Professor George Caird was appointed by the trustees of the competition.
George was the Professor of Oboe at The London Royal Academy of Music in 1984. He worked there for several years.
In September 1993, he was appointed Principal of The Birmingham Conservatoire, a post that he held for 17 years.
From 2011 until last year, George was the Artistic Director of The Rotterdam Classical Music Academy.
Now back in the UK, he continues to teach the oboe at The Birmingham Conservatoire and is the president of The Barbirolli International Oboe Competition which next takes place on the Isle of Man in April 2017.
Ian Morris, chairman of the Bromsgrove International Musician’s Competition, said: “We are very proud to welcome Professor Caird to The Bromsgrove family and we look forward to working with him to develop the competition for many years to come.”
George has performed in China, India, Egypt, Tunisia and Canada.
