Top Day Out: Marvellous Machines at Black Country Living Museum

Bromsgrove Editorial 13th Apr, 2022   0

This Bank Holiday (Sat 30th Apr – Mon 2nd May), join Black Country Living Museum for a weekend of Marvellous Machines as they celebrate steam power and industry.

The whole family can discover what it was like to live in one of Britain’s most heavily industrialised landscapes with a sensation of sights, sounds and smells.

Visitors will be able to explore steam action as an array of engines, tractors, rollers and miniature Mammod models take over the Museum. Whilst exploring, you can also enjoy the once classical sound from a steam fairground organ.

Step inside the industrial landscape and see sparks fly as re-enactors use centuries-old techniques to skillfully craft chains and nails.

There will be a rare opportunity to see the mighty Anchor Forge, with its one-ton hammer blow smashing into metal with a thunderous roar. When you see it, you won’t be surprised that it produced some of the largest metalwork the world had ever known.

Plus, head over to the “manufacturing spectacle” to find out how bricks were made, discover the working of traps and see the remarkable steam demonstrations.

Marvel over the display of vintage vehicles, and don’t forget to pop down to the historic boat dock to find out how tug boats were the driving force of the Black Country canals in the industrial revolution.

Not forgetting all your usual favourite things that make up a fantastic day out at the Museum: pop in to the sweet shop for your favourite traditional sweets, try your luck at vintage fairground games and enjoy some bostin’ fittle from our famous fish and chip shop!
