FOOTBALL - Church late show stuns Mickleover

BEN Cassidy’s injury time goal helped Alvechurch complete a sensational late come from behind 2-1 win against Mickleover as Ian Long’s side secured a fourth successive victory.

Cassidy struck four minutes into time added on after Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton equalised for Church on 89 minutes at Lye Meadow following Mason Warren’s opener from the penalty spot.

The result means Alvechurch move up to 11th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Mickleover were awarded a penalty on 64 minutes when Brad Burton was adjudged to have fouled Oliver Greaves in the box as Warren coolly sent Dan Jezeph the wrong way from the penalty spot.

However, Church grabbed a deserved equaliser one minute from time when Hamilton turned home Jack Concannon’s cutback at the near post from close range.

And there was still time for the home side to snatch the points at the death as Mickleover failed to clear Hamilton’s cutback and Cassidy sent a first time finish high into the goal from eight-yards out to spark wild scenes of celebration.

Alvechurch host Needham Market on Good Friday (April 7) with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow and travel to Redditch United on Easter Monday (April 10) with kick-off at 3pm at the Trico Stadium.
