BROMSGROVE Repair Cafe celebrates its first birthday on Saturday, having fixed 260 items in the last 12 months.
It has meant lawnmowers, household electricals, clothing, woodwork pieces, jewellery and other items have been prevented from going to landfill.
Garden tools can also be sharpened.
The volunteer repairers have decades of knowledge and experience of fixing items – all people have to do is turn up at All Saints Church between 2pm and 5pm (last admission 4.30pm).
After being checked in at reception, people are given a number and an estimated time it will take to see the relevant repairer.
If the repair is successful, they make a donation to the Repair Cafe – via card or with cash – which helps it continue its good work for the community and covers insurance and hall hire.
While people wait, they can buy tea, coffee or home-made cakes.
People are also encouraged to bring older children so they can watch and learn about repairing.
And to celebrate the first anniversary, three more repair experts are being added in turntables, jewellery and clocks.
They also hope to have a bike repairer.
The Bromsgrove Repair Cafe’s first AGM was held on January 30 where it was revealed 65 per cent of items were successfully repaired on the day while others were taken away as more time was needed or parts had to be ordered.
Some items were irrepairable.
Bromsgrove Repair Cafes are on the first Saturday of every month at All Saints Church Hall, except the coronation weekend, when it will be on the Monday, May 8, at St Andrew’s Church in Charford.
