This month’s column is brought to you by XR Bromsgrove.
THIS SATURDAY, February 4, ‘Repair Cafe Bromsgrove’ holds its next session (these are on the first Saturday of the month from 2pm to 5pm at All Saints Hall).
Our volunteer professional repairers will either do a repair on the spot or diagnose the problem and advise where to order a spare part.
In return we ask for a donation to cover running costs.
This is part of a worldwide project to inspire repair and re-use.
This Repair Cafe has grown organically, now boasting 19 volunteer repairers.
We fix novelty toys, tools for sharpening, clothes, electronic and electrical goods, with no guarantees.
These Cafes are a hands-on way to put a stop to our throwaway economy – we aim to pass on basic repair skills to visitors and their older children.
We can reduce, re-use, repair, recycle to help both people and planet.

Since 2019 Extinction Rebellion Bromsgrove has worked with other Worcestershire Groups to sound the alarm about global warming, what with heatwaves, poor air quality here, and flooding and raw sewage discharge in the river Severn and flooding in the Global South.
We campaign nationally against continued investment in fossil fuels.
We only have a few years to get to zero carbon by 2030 in the UK to reverse the 1.5 degree rise in carbon emissions.
Our main campaigning method is street theatre.
This April 21, and for that weekend, XR is mounting an encirclement of Parliament.

Bromsgrove Climate Action is an offshoot of Friends of the Earth.
You may have seen them promoting the Warm Homes campaign in the High street – we are demanding government-funded mass home-insulation.
Also BCA often does tree-planting , runs stalls at BDHT fun days and in Sanders Park in August.
They feed advice to the district council on keeping our homes warm for BDC’s leaflets accompanying this March’s council tax demand.
They lobby our MP, campaign against use of bee-killing glyphosate locally, and plant trees. Follow ‘Bromsgrove Climate Action’ on Facebook
‘Our Climate Conversation’ a new pressure-group set up in spring 2021, has worked closely with BCA Its first public conversation took place in July 2022.
It is organising a second climate conversation in the late spring.
Follow ourclimateconversation.uk for the finalised date.
