FOOTBALL - Sporting show class to ease past promotion-chasing Nuneaton

BROMSGROVE Sporting produced their best performance of the season to beat promotion-chasing Nuneaton Borough 3-0 and record back-to-back home victories.

Sweeney opened the scoring in the first half before Miro Pais and Brandon Smalley netted in the second period as Mike McGrath’s extended their unbeaten run to four matches.

The result means Sporting sit 10th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

And the two teams traded chances in the opening exchanges as Kieron Dawes forced former Rousler Tony Breeden into a save before Ollie Taylor made a stunning stop to keep out Max Brogan’s free-kick at the other end.

Bromsgrove took the lead on 38 minutes when Sweeney tapped home a loose ball from close range to score his third goal in as many matches.

The Rouslers should have doubled their lead after the break only for Pais to shoot against the post from Sweeney’s square ball.

However, Pais would eventually score Sporting’s second of the afternoon on 57 minutes when he turned and fired a brilliant effort into the top left corner from Sweeney’s pass.

And McGrath’s men sealed the victory on 74 minutes when Smalley found the net despite appeals for a foul from several Nuneaton players.

Sporting are next in action away at Bedford Town on Saturday, November 26 with kick-off at 3pm at The New Eyrie.
