COUNTY residents are being encouraged to ‘get real’ during Reycling Week which comes to an end on Sunday (October 23)
During the week, Recycle Now will be providing recycling information and insights to prove that recycling right really can make a difference.
In fact, recycling in the UK saves 18 million tonnes of CO2 a year – all these factors reduce greenhouse gas emissions which lead to climate change.
Getting recycling right can have a big impact. One wrong item in the recycling bin can make the whole bin unrecyclable so please remember to make sure your recycling is clean, loose and not in plastic bags when placed in your recycling bin.
Never dispose of nappies, food waste, bottles that still contain liquids or containers that still have food residue, in your green bin.
Coun Richard Morris, cabinet member for the Environment, said: “We are all becoming more aware of climate change and this can feel overwhelming for some.
“However, there are many things we can do to help make a difference and recycling is something we can all do. It’s fantastic this year’s recycle week will help answer some of the commonly asked questions to make things simpler.
“We should continue to use our green bins for our recyclable items.
“Our black bins should only ever be used for items that cannot be recycled such as food waste, nappies, clothing, electrical items and toys, so it is always worth checking which bin something should go in if you’re not sure.”
