A TOTAL of £2,000 has been raised for Prostate Cancer UK from a concert by Alcester Male Voice Choir at Bromsgrove’s St Michael and All Angels Church.
The event at the Stoke Prior church on September 24 saw the cash raised from ticket sales, a raffle and donations.
The Good Companions presented some light-hearted sketches at the event which were also aimed at raising awareness of prostate cancer and to encourage men to get themselves checked by their GP.
And a poem by Mrs master of ceremonies Sheila Proudfoot urging men to be aware of the prostate cancer symptoms was also performed on the night.

Organiser Pat Proudfoot said: “It really was a fantastic evening.
“I want to say a big thank you to Gary and Catherine Stokes whose contacts got us donations, including a free portable toilet for the night and to Geoff for the lighting.”
It’ll Be Alright by Sheila Proudfoot
What’s with you going three times last night?
Disturbing me, putting on the light.
What’s the cause of it do you think?
I’d probably had too much to drink.
I’ve been working too hard I’ve not done a lot
It’ll be alright.
It’s probably my age believe it or not
It’ll be alright.
I sat on that cold bench waiting for you
No womnder I needed to go to the loo
It’ll be alright.
You realise it could be prostate cancer
And ‘it’ll be alright’ is not the answer.
It may well be nothing but what is the harm?
In having some blood taken out of your arm?
That’ll be alright.
You men make such a blooming fuss
You make excuses, moan and cuss
Saying it’ll be alright.
So if you say it’ll be alright once more
You’ll give me no chance but to lay down the law
I know that I’m nagging it’s just that I care
I wouldn’t be happy if you were not there
I speak from experience it happened to us
But we caught it early so not too much fuss.
