MEMBERS of the Bromsgrove and Redditch NHS Retirement Fellowship teamed up with the Upper GI Cancer Support Group to raise £2,400 for the University Hospitals Birmingham Charity (UHBC).
The Fellowship, which is a social club for retired NHS staff that meets fortnightly at the Catshill Methodist Church, raised the cash from a series of raffles throughout the year.
The sum was presented to UHBC representative Cathryn Worth last Wednesday.
Some fellowship members are also involved with the Upper GI Cancer Support Group.
The funds raised by the two groups will be used to support the work of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, specifically one of the cancer funds at the hospital.
Cathryn said: “It’s thanks to the support of people and groups like these that University Hospitals Birmingham Charity is able to help patients in areas over and above NHS funding.
“This can include anything from research, cutting edge equipment, improving facilities or items for a ward to make patients’ stays more comfortable.
“It’s testament to all those who once worked for the NHS, continue to support its work in this way.”
