A CHARITY picnic and fun day will be held in memory of Amy Shimell and to raise funds for Birmingham Women’s Hospital.
It will take place at Bromsgrove Rugby Club between 12pm and at least 3pm on Saturday, July 30.
Amy, who died in September 2017 at the age of 32, loved her vocation as a neonatal nursery nurse at the Women’s and had a great passion for patient care.
There was a fantastic turn-out to last year’s inaugural picnic, which had to be held socially-distanced because of the Covid restrictions in place at the time.
But now – with those gone – the organisers are hoping this year’s will be even bigger and have planned extra features for the event.
Amy’s sister Lucy said: “Pack up a picnic and bring along your blankets for a day of fun with your family and friends.”
Activities include an inflatable assault course, a bouncy castle, games, DJ Gareth Hodgkins, live music from singer Jennifer Bolton, a join in a dance class, ice cream van, a raffle with some fantastic prizes, a tombola, cake sale and some local craft stalls, including Rubery Honey, Stacey’s Story Books and more.
Attendees will also be able to take part in a drumming workshop by Glamba and it is hoped a Bromsgrove fire crew will be there so youngsters can have a look around one of their engines.
The club’s new outoor bar, barbecue and patio area – billed as the biggest beer garden in Bromsgrove – will be central to the event and camping is available for those who want to stay over.
Lucy added: “That will enable people not in walking distance to really make the most of the bar and enjoy a bacon buttie from the club’s cafe the next morning.”
Admission to the picnic is £3 per person or £10 for a family of up to five.
