A SPECIAL service to mark the 40th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War will take place at Bromsgrove’s War Monument on Crown Close.

Everyone is welcome to the ceremony and an appeal has been made for any veterans of the conflict to also attend.

The service will take place at 11.30am on Tuesday, June 14, and feature wreath layings from all three armed services – Army, Navy and Air Force.

The Last Post will be played and Union Flag raised ceremonially at 11.59am.

The actual conflict itself ended at 11.59pm but, to make it more accessible, the same time in the morning has been chosen for the poignant moment.

Organiser Lee Kitely said: “The anniversary is so important to remember – especially as it is still so relevant in these difficult modern times with aggressive regimes still forcing countries into conflict whilst not recognising the consequences.”

There will also be refreshments afterwards at the Golden Cross on Bromsgrove High Street.
