LIVE music is back – and, judging by the applause of a packed audience at The Midland Sinfonia’s concert in Alvechurch earlier this year, the orchestra left them wanting more!
And fans will not be disappointed as the Sinfonia returns to give its second post-lockdown performance this coming Saturday, May 7, once again in St Lawrence Church in Alvechrch.
The programme includes a selection of classical favourites sitting side by side with popular film and show tunes.
The chart-topping ‘What a Wonderful World!’, made famous by Louis Armstrong, heads up the concert, which also features Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’, Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Lark Ascending’, Vivaldi’s ‘Summer’ from The Four Seasons, Elgar’s ‘Chanson de Matin and Chanson de Nuit’, Bartok’s ‘Romanian Dances’ and the familiar ‘Ashokan Farewell’.
Worcestershire-born Shulah Oliver, the Sinfonia’s music director, is well-known throughout the Midlands as a teacher and performer. “Hearing live music is a joy for so many – an escape in recent troubled times,” she said.
“Our aim is to offer a broad range of music which will appeal to all tastes, and, what’s more, on our own doorstep!”
The Midland Sinfonia concert ‘What a Wonderful World!’ is at 7.30pm on the night.
