GENEROUS supporters enabled Bromsgrove Sporting to raise £3,000 towards the UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for Ukraine on Saturday.

Bosses had waived the admission fee for the Southern League match against Biggleswade Town meaning fans could get in free.

Instead they were asked to donate cash to the cause and £2,900.96 was collected. A Sporting director topped up the total to make it a round £3,000.

The cash will now go towards helping the millions of people who are in need of humanitarian aid due to the conflict in Ukraine.

It meant the club also had the fourth highest attendance in the country for Step 3 and 4 football on Saturday with a crowd of 1,537 – bettered only by Halesowen Town (1,727), FC United of Manchester (2,068) and South Shields (2,173).

Club chairman Mike Burke thanked everyone who donated and said: “It was a good atmosphere at the Victoria Ground on Saturday and again it shows once again the kindness of the Bromsgrove Sporting community.”

In addition to the collection for Ukraine, spectators were entertained before the kick-off and at half-time by Paola Olivetti’s Rock Choir who sang songs made famous by top artists, including Abba and Queen.
