Danger warning to drivers after spate of drain and manhole cover thefts across Worcestershire

Bromsgrove Editorial 25th Dec, 2021   0

WORCESTERSHIRE Highways Officers are warning motorists to drive with care after a number of manhole covers were stolen across the county.

A quantity of covers have been taken from Wychbold in the past fortnight.

Covers have also been reported stolen from Elmley Castle towards Hinton-on-the Green

Last week a number of drain covers were taken from roads in Bromsgrove and Catshill.

Officers are working closely with National Highways and Worcestershire County Council to ensure the county’s roads remain safe and to investigate the thefts.

People are also being urged to keep an eye out and report any thefts they see.

Anyone with any information which could be linked to the thefts of manhole covers should visit westmercia.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/ or call 101 to report it.

Worcestershire County Council are working hard to replace any missing covers with temporary plastic covers or putting safety barriers in place to ensure our roads remain safe, however caution when travelling is advised.

Anyone who spots a missing drain cover should report it immediately to Worcestershire Highways by visiting worcestershire.gov.uk/reportit or by calling 01905 845676.

Suspicious behaviour or vehicles linked to thefts should also be reported to police on 101.

The council and police would particularly like to hear from anyone who has footage from their CCTV or video doorbells that may be of use in helping catch the thieves.
