More than 100 motorists arrested for drink or drug driving in the first fortnight of West Mercia Police's Christmas and new year campaign

MORE than 100 motorists have been arrested for drink or drug driving in the first two weeks of the West Mercia Police Christmas and new year campaign.

Statistics released by the force show between December 1 and 13, 62 have been held for drink driving and a further 41 for drug driving.

Figures indicate that over the past three years 43 people have died and 215 have been seriously injured in West Mercia following collisions where drink or drugs were recorded as a contributory factor.

The police said there were plenty of alternatives available with public transport, taxis and sharing designated drivers.

Pedestrians are also being encouraged to stay safe, plan safe routes home and to drink responsibly.

People are also being urged to not risk driving the morning after a ‘heavy night’ in the run up to Christmas as the alcohol levels in their system can still see them over the limit.
