BROMSGROVE Sporting returned to league action with a 1-1 draw against Nuneaton Borough – as Demetri Brown’s second-half goal ended a run of four straight defeats in the Southern League Premier Central.

Brown opened the scoring on 58 minutes with a header before Danny King equalised for the hosts in the 71st minute to hand Nuneaton a share of the spoils.

Saturday’s clash at Liberty Way marked the first league fixture Sporting had played since Brendan Kelly’s departure the previous month.

And the result means Bromsgrove are now 15th in the league table – five points above the division’s bottom side Hitchin Town.

The home side made a quick start and forced Akos Onodi into a fine save with his feet to keep out Anthony Dwyer after just eight minutes.

Former Sporting goalkeeper Tony Breeden then got down well to save Miro Pais’ drilled effort towards the bottom corner.

Nuneaton than missed a couple of excellent chances with Damien McCrory heading over before Onodi saved Scott McManus’ free-kick.

And after the teams went in level at half-time – Sporting would break the deadlock just before the hour mark.

Pais delivered an excellent ball into the near post that was headed home by Brown for his second goal in as many games.

However, Bromsgrove were unable to hold onto their lead as King levelled with a clinical first-time finish that flew past Onodi.

Sporting could have snatched the points soon after when Cameron Ebbutt sent a header over the bar from six-yards out before King blazed over for the visitors with the final chance of the game.

Bromsgrove are next in action at home to Tamworth on Tuesday, November 9 with kick-off at the Victoria Ground at 7:45pm.
