Bromsgrove to host only Burma VJ Day commemoration in the country on Sunday

Bromsgrove Editorial 12th Aug, 2021 Updated: 13th Aug, 2021   0

A PARADE to mark VJ Day will be held at the town’s Burma Star Memorial, Crown Close, on Sunday, August 15.

People will muster at 2.40pm ready to start at 3pm.

This year will be the 76th anniversary and, with most Burma Associations disbanding, Bromsgrove is the only one left in the country.

Two of the last surviving Burma veterans live in Bromsgrove so the town’s Royal British Legion vowed to keep its association and event going.

The town’s memorial has also long been the national memorial for that particular campaign.

For more on the parade and service, which will feature a lone piper, email Bromsgrove Royal British Legion chairman Patrick Smith at [email protected] or call him on 07949 789841.
