THE HISTORIC Bromsgrove Court Leet Fair Day will go ahead next Saturday, June 26, with social distancing in place.
A scaled down version of the usual proceedings will include themed markets and a short parade by Court members and guests.
Two pipers will walk from Kidderminster Road to the Housman statue where assizes of bread and ale will be heard.
The day is held to celebrate the awarding of the town’s 1199 Charter by King John.
The Charter will be proclaimed by Bromsgrove’s first female Bailiff Joanne Slade.
The 14 additional market stalls, many run by local charities and community groups, will be set up in the High Street alongside the regular Saturday market traders.
The organisers have worked alongside the Markets Team and the Bromsgrove District Council’s Arts and Events Team to ensure Fair Day can go ahead safely within the current restrictions.
Ms Slade said “I’m so pleased we are able to uphold the traditions of the town and celebrate the charter of 1199.
“It is wonderful to think that the Charter was granted over 800 years ago and the market and the fair still takes place today.
“The Court Leet has worked with the council officers to organise the parade and markets with the safety of all as our top priority.”
