Volunteers wanted to help patients at Worcestershire hospitals

Bromsgrove Editorial 10th Nov, 2020   0

STAFF at Worcestershire hospitals are appealing for volunteers to offer patient support during the pandemic.

The trust which manages the Alexandra, Kidderminster and Worcestershire Royal Hospitals is keen to hear from anyone who might be interested in helping out.

Patient delivery service volunteers are being put in place to support family and friends who want to deliver small gifts, snacks or cards to their loved ones in hospital.

This service is designed to support patients’ families whilst compassionate visiting is in place.

And ‘wayfinder volunteers’ will provide crucial support to people coming into hospital by enhancing the experience.

This will be by helping to direct, navigate and support any queries that may be asked.

Anna Sterckx, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s head of patient, carer and public engagement, said: “We welcome all support from our local community, including from people who can offer a few hours a day or week.”

Anyone who is fit and healthy, over 18 and not displaying any of the main symptoms of coronavirus can offer to help.

All volunteers will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and successful Occupational Health clearance.
