Fund-raising appeal launched after Bromsgrove Sporting Colts' club house is broken into, causing £3,000 worth of damage

HEARTLESS thieves broke into a club house used by Bromsgrove Sporting Colts junior football teams, causing £3,000 worth of damage and stealing an industrial sized grass-cutter.

Significant damage was caused during the incident at the Barnsley Hall Playing Fields on Saturday night.

To gain access the burglars ripped off a metal window shutter, broke the frame and locks on two high security doors and broke into a storage unit.

They then escaped with items, including the grass cutter.

To replace the machine and repair the damage the club would have to use cash which was earmarked for providing equipment for the teams so a crowd-funding campaign has been launched in a bid to raise the £3,000 needed to put everything right.

A spokesperson for the club said: “We, Bromsgrove Sporting Colts, would be extremely grateful for any contribution that local businesses and the community could donate to help pay for these repairs and to make sure that this doesn’t impact the children who are really proud of the facilities that the club house provides them with.”

Bromsgrove Police have launched an investigation into the break-in.

PC Hillbrook said: “This is a mindless and selfish crime and will not be tolerated.

“The destruction of this community based centre by these vandals has caused a lot of understandable upset and anger locally at an already challenging time for the community.”

He urged any witnesses or anyone with any information to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
