Bromsgrove's Spadesbourne Brook will be improved to boost biodiversity

Bromsgrove Editorial 23rd Oct, 2019   0

SPADESBOURNE Brook in Bromsgrove will be improved to boost biodiversity and help reduce flood risk.

The works will take place near North Bromsgrove High School on the footpath which connects Blackmore Lane and Shenstone Close with School Drive.

Several small pools will be added in the wooded area – which is part of the West Mercia Police headquarters – to hold rain water and provide better habitats for Bromsgrove’s endangered water voles.

A small weir will be fitted in the brook with a rock ramp fishway to improve fish passage.

Once the work has been completed wetland plants and wildflowers will be put in place.

Residents are invited to take part in the planting but a date is yet to be confirmed.

Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for environmental services, Coun Margaret Sherrey, said: “By working together the local community can make a big improvement to the brook and create space not only for water when it rains but also for local wildlife.”

The project is being delivered through a partnership with the council, Bromsgrove District Housing Trust, West Mercia Police and led by North Worcestershire Water Management.
