AN impressive bowling display by Bromsgrove School secured a five-run win against East Sussex side Bede’s School to become under-17 national champions.
Bromsgrove posted a score of 157 from their 35 overs in the final held in Loughborough, before Bede’s were dismissed for 153, with three wickets falling in the final over.
After being put into bat first, Bromsgrove lost early wickets and were reduced to 36-3, before Awais Mohammed and Mo Talukder put on a stand of 42 to slowly rebuild the innings.
Freddie Fallows, who made his debut for Bromsgrove’s first XI during the 2019 season, and Henry Marshall both added to the tally with their cameos, helping their side finish on a respectable total.
Jasper Davidson took a couple of wickets with the new ball as Bede’s slipped to 18-2 in their reply.
Spinners Dan Meredith and Fallows worked their way through the top-to-middle order, taking three wickets between them during the 14 over spell.
Joe Miszkowski took two more dismissals for just 18 runs as the match approached its climax.
With Bede’s requiring nine runs from the final over to win the title, Tom Cosh secured two stumpings and one run-out to ensure Bromsgrove were victorious.
Bromsgrove had beaten King’s, Trent, Shrewsbury, Myrescough and Stamford en route to the final.
