A BROMSGROVE woman will get to put her feet up from tomorrow after spending half a century working in shoe shops.
Elizabeth Troth, 65, the manageress of Blunts Shoes on Bromsgrove High Street, said she was ‘equally excited and sad’ about her pending retirement.
“It’s been an amazing experience – it will be quite surreal when I don’t go back to work next week.
“A 46-year-old man came by the store the other day, someone who I helped pick shoes for when he was a child.”
Elizabeth, who has been at Blunts since 1969, started working at Brighton’s when she was just 14 years old.
She said the shoe industry had changed drastically over time and Bromsgrove’s High Street was a good example of that.
“The high street originally had eight different shoe shops but now it only has two.
“I’ve been so lucky to be able to stay on in employment because staff do come and go.”
On Sunday, October 6, one day after her retirement, Elizabeth will celebrate by jetting off on a holiday to Majorca with husband Chris, also 65.
A lifelong friend of Elizabeth, Keith Hodson, said: “She’s not one to make a fuss but I think it’s important to recognise her achievements.
“Liz is a wonderful person and a shining example in the community.”
