Bromsgrove and Droitwich Salvation Army set up meetings to help combat loneliness

Tristan Harris 5th Aug, 2019   0

DROITWICH Salvation Army has been recognised for its luncheon clubs which help combat loneliness in the community.

The organisation was awarded a ‘Friendly and Welcoming Group’ accolade from Reconnections.

Its citation said the branch went out of its way to make people feel welcome and included, especially when they were new to the group,

Droitwich Salvation Army runs two weekly lunch clubs and a friendship group, all made possible by volunteers.

They are aimed at reducing isolation and encouraging participants to meet new people.

People living alone in Bromsgrove can go along to drop-in sessions being run by the town’s Salvation Army branch.

The centre on Carlisle Road is open from 10am to 2pm on Wednesdays for all ages.

The sessions are for people who would like a little company and to meet up and socialise with others in the same position.

Daily newspapers are available to read, along with jigsaws, board games, dominoes and various card games.

Admission is free and lunch is available for just £1.20.

Volunteers are also welcome to join the team.

Call 01527 875231 for more information or how to volunteer.
