Short service to be held at Bromsgrove's War Monument tomorrow morning to mark D-Day Landings anniversary

A SHORT service will be held in Bromsgrove at 8am tomorrow morning (Thursday) to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

The ceremony in Crown Close, by the town’s war monument, will be led by Rev Ray Khan, vicar at the town’s St John’s Church and the Bromsgrove Royal British Legion (RBL).

Members of the RBL will also be there on parade and the Last Post will be played.

Operation Neptune – commonly known as the ‘D-Day Landings’ – took place on June 6, 1944, and is still the largest ever seaborne invasion in military history.

Acting on a year’s worth of intelligence gathered from a variety of different sources, thousands of troops from Great Britain, Canada, America and Australia travelled across the English Channel to liberate France from Nazi control.

It laid the foundations for the Allied victory on the Western Front.
