Bromsgrove officer to parachute onto Normandy beach to commemorate D-Day

A BROMSGROVE officer will parachute onto a Normandy beach during a special parade to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Major Gareth Evans from the 2nd Para regiment, who went to Bromsgrove School, will be part of the proceedings on Wednesday, June 5.

Gareth will be one of 500 British troops landing as close to Pegasus Bridge as possible.

The bridge was an intrinsic part of the operation and the scene of a large battle to stop the Germans progressing any further.

Gareth’s mum Jules said: “We are so proud of him and everything he has achieved.”
