Libraries across Worcestershire to hold events for Dementia Awareness Week which begins today

LIBRARIES across Worcestershire have been supporting Dementia Action Week which began on Monday and ends on Sunday, May 26.

Specialist books, available on the ‘Books on Prescription’ scheme, have been displayed at the libraries.

They include personal stories and practical support, providing self-help reading for people with dementia and their carers.

Many libraries also run free health walks which are led by volunteers, suit all abilities, improve general wellbeing and provide a great chance for people with dementia and their carers to socialise and get to know their local area.

Coun Adrian Hardman, cabinet member with responsibility for Adult Social Care at Worcestershire County Council said: “Our libraries offer a safe, familiar space to help support those living with Dementia and their loved ones.

“As well as supporting Dementia Action Week, it is fantastic to see that there are regular opportunities in our libraries, like the connect cafes, that can support those who care for a person with Dementia.”
