Helpful soles sought to be part of Age UK Bromsgrove's Foot Care Team

THE charity Age UK is appealing for volunteers to join their community foot care team in Redditch and Bromsgrove.

“We’re looking for someone who hasn’t got an aversion to feet and who has an empathy for people and for providing a really good service,” said Jo Hughes of Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest.

“You don’t need a medical background – all training will be given – you need to have a people background.

“The thing is our feet are really important yet we tend to neglect them and if you don’t look after them there could be major repercussions later in life.”

The volunteers will just be providing a simple nail cutting service, but also playing a vital person to person role by spending time with the customer and talking with them.

“By taking routine care of our feet, serious problems can usually be avoided (as well as reducing the risk of trips and falls) however, activities such as simple nail cutting can often become more challenging as we age,” said Jo.

“If you are over 50 and in general good health, but are unable to manage looking after your feet then Age UK BRWF are here to help.”

The community foot care service will operate across North Worcestershire where the trained volunteers will provide a toe nail cutting service.

To access the service customers need to obtain a referral form from Age UK BRWF and get it signed by a doctor or nurse to ensure the service is suitable for you.

Age UK will then arrange a first appointment.

There is a cost involved – for more details contact Sam Jones on 01527 871840 or email: [email protected] .

Volunteers for the toe nail cutting service should ring the same number or email: [email protected] .
