Bromsgrove Rock School tune up, ready for their latest gig

Bromsgrove Editorial 19th Mar, 2019   0

TALENTED young musicians from Bromsgrove Rock School will be taking to the stage at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club next Sunday, March 31, for their latest gig.

The performers are all aged between 11 and 18 and have been working towards the event since January, meeting every Saturday morning at St John’s Middle School.

They have developed a strong programme of covers and original compositions to perform, with the help of professional musician Brian Hoggard, supported by guitarist Loz Ruston and vocal coach Givvi Flynn.

Songs performed by the ambitious youngsters will include: ‘Sad But True’ – Metallica, an ACDC medley; ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ – Green Day, ‘Wild Thing’ – The Troggs and ‘Half the World Away’ – Oasis.

Teenagers Phoebe Gates and Storm Cox displayed their fantastic talent at the previous gig in December, will be performing their own original material.

Residents are encouraged to go along to support the musicians and it is hoped there will be a large crowd at the event which will also be watched by Dave Wilkins from the Palace Theatre in Redditch. He will be looking for finalists for the Redditch Has Talent competition in July.

Doors open at 5.30pm and the gig starts at 6pm, lasting for about an hour.

There is no entry charge but there will be a raffle on the night to raise money for the Bromsgrove Rock School Festival Fund.

Following the success of performances at the Primrose Hospice summer fete and Blackwell Festival in 2018, the youngsters hope to have plenty more performance opportunities in 2019.

Local organisations supporting the raffle with prizes include Broad Street DIY, Courtyard Music in Tardebigge, Grafton Manor Hotel and Miller and Carter.
