NORTH Worcestershire Hate Incident Partnership (NWHIP) has won a prestigious accolade for the way it organised last year’s Hate Crime Awareness Conference.

The NWHIP was presented with the ‘Muslim in the Community Award’ at the British Muslim Awards.

The October conference in Bromsgrove, organised as part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, highlighted the devastating impact hate crime had on people’s lives and encouraged a celebration of diversity in the community.

Speakers at the conference included local Paralympian Claire Cashmore MBE, and 2017 ‘The Apprentice’ candidate and businesswoman Bushra Shaikh, who shared their experiences of hate crime with a 100-strong crowd from across Redditch, Bromsgrove and Wyre Forest.

On receiving the award at the ceremony in Bradford, partnership chair Nadia Rashid said: “The event we organised was a really positive initiative to help bring together different communities across North Worcestershire.

“It was a chance to celebrate perceived differences and also offer support to local communities in reporting any hate incidents.”

NHWIP is made up of representatives from organisations including local councils, West Mercia Police and Victim Support.
