Adventurous running grandad Doug to give talk at Hewell Grange about his Antarctica trip

ADVENTURE running grandad, Doug Richards will be giving a talk on his run in Antarctica last year in the magnificent setting of the Great Hall of HMP Hewell Grange.

By completing the run, Doug, aged 70, fulfilled a lifetime’s ambition of running at least a half marathon on all seven of the planet’s continents: a feat only accomplished by a few hundred people worldwide.

In fact, more people have climbed Everest than have run such long distances on all seven continents.

“I gave a similar talk at Hewell Grange last summer to an audience of invited guests as well as some of the prisoners, and it was a great success,” said Doug.

“It would be good to think that it might inspire some of the residents to make better life choices after they are released.”

The event is on the evening of Friday, February 22 and admission is free but places are limited and must be reserved before February 15 to allow a list of guests to be compiled for security purposes.

Doug, from Redditch, added: “The talk would appeal not only to runners but to those interested in worldwide travel as well.”

A collection for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity will be made on the evening and Doug will also be selling copies of his books, ‘Running Hot & Cold’ and ‘Can We Run With You, Grandfather?’ on the evening and would be happy to sign them.

A donation of £2 from each book sale will also go to the charity.
