A MAN in his 50s has died after being struck by oncoming traffic on the M5 near Frankley Services in the early hours of this morning.

The incident, involving the pedestrian, happened between 1.45am and 2am.

Police are appealing for any motorists who were travelling north or south on the motorway at that time to get in touch.

Insp Russ Barker said: “The M5 is a central route for people travelling across the country and we’re keen to speak to anyone who was on the stretch of the motorway between junction 3 and 4 near to Frankley Services early this morning.”

Officers are still trying to ascertain what the man was doing on the carriageway.

The motorway, along with the Iley Lane bridge, was closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident but re-opened this afternoon.

Any witnesses should contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference 55s 031118.
