VOLUNTEERS at St Andrew’s Church in Barnt Green are appealing for more people to come forward and help package ‘shoe box gifts’ to send to deprived children in Zambia.

Residents will have the opportunity to make a real difference through the annual ‘Super Shoe Box’ event next Saturday, October 6.

Bromsgrove resident Rosemary Aveyard, said: “Last year I went to Zambia and gave out shoe boxes with hygiene items, stationery, toys and games inside.

“It was an amazing feeling because the children have never received a gift of any kind.”

Rosemary said most of the children did not understand the concept of a Christmas or birthday present until she went out to the African country in December 2017.

“We want as many people as possible to come along and help us pack gifts into boxes.”

Last year the church was able to send more than 300 boxes filled with goodies.

The event will run from 10am to 3pm and there will be tea, coffee and cake available for all the volunteers.
