RESIDENTS will be able to try Nordic walking for free as part of National Fitness Day 2018.

Bromsgrove’s Ian Northcott BEM from Mercian Nordic Walking will be offering free sessions on Wednesday, September 26, with both members of the group and non-members being urged to take part.

Nordic walking is a full-body exercise which involves walking with poles similar to ski-sticks.

Mr Northcott said: “We are a fitness company open to all abilities and nearly all our activities are outdoors.

“We are getting the people of Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Redditch and Worcester fit with our fun sessions.”

This year’s National Fitness Day is aiming to be the biggest yet as last year saw more than 20,000 free fitness events across the UK, with more than 5million taking part.

CEO of National Fitness Day organiser, Stephen Ward said: “National Fitness Day is a fantastic chance to spotlight physical activity and the role it plays in creating a healthier nation.

“Last year we got 5million people moving and this year we want to go even bigger, giving everyone the chance to experience the fun of fitness.”

It gives organisations the chance to attract new members by promoting the broad benefits of movement to people in their area.
