VISITORS to the Lickey Hills this weekend can get an insight into its ‘hidden heritage’ and the First and Second World War sites, writes Rebecca Perry.

The event has been organised by the Lickey Hills Local History Society as part of the Heritage Lottery First World War Centenary project.

From 11am to 4pm tomorrow at the Visitor Centre, Warren Lane, there will be free guided walks, displays and activities.

At 11.30am, there will be an unveiling of permanent information boards which are also being made available online and in a teacher’s pack as an educational resource for school visits.

From 2pm to 3.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday, guided walks of the First and Second World War sites will be available.

On Sunday, the Worcestershire World War 100 bell tent historical performers will provide entertainment and provide information on how the First World World War impacted on Worcestershire.

Some of the displays include ‘The men on our war memorials’, 1918 Suffrage, the Spanish Flu, local churches and a collection of maps.

Among the Lickey Hills sites restored as part of the project were two gun butts for testing field guns, a partially demolished munitions store and three brick buildings in the Bilberry Hill Gun Proof Range Bilberry Hill in the Lickey Hills Country Park.

Funds were also used to record the buildings, run workshops to train volunteers and visit archives for research.

Visit www.lhlhs.org.uk or contact the society via email: [email protected] for a full timetable of events and more information.
