A POPPY patch planted in Rubery to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War is now in full bloom.
The flowers, on Legion Road, are accompanied by a plaque featuring the poem ‘In Flanders’ Fields’ by John McCrae.
Year eight students from Waseley Hills High School made poppies to decorate the surrounding fence with as part of the project organised by Rubery in Bloom.
It was written in the trenches in 1915 and has been attributed with being the inspiration of the adoption of the wild poppy as a symbol of Remembrance.
The patch was planted on the last Armistice Day so they would bloom this year.
