A RUBERY girl has been crowned national Taekwon-do champion following a tournament in Coventry, writes Ellen Heaselgrave.

Madison Pewtner, eight, who trains two nights-a-week at Rubery Taekwon-do, took the gold and became the Patterns National blue belt champion.

Despite her age and size, Madison worked hard to fight off her competition of mostly larger boys and girls.

Rubery Taekwon-do’s chief instructor Yvonne Hill said: “I am so proud of Madison.

“She is a dedicated student who always stays focused and works hard.

“Her gold was well deserved.”

Yvonne added Madison’s parents were in the crowd with their ‘hearts in their mouths’ and ‘biting their nails’ as she notched up her well-earned victory.
